Automatic Train Operation (ATO) refers to the level of automation where railways in the WolvHaven server operate on. Railways in the WolvHaven server have varying degrees of automation, which is defined by the Grade of Automation (GoA). The grades of operation were introduced in 2016 when the server introduced manual train driving to certain lines of the WolvHaven Metro (4th Haven) as an alternative to shutting down various metro lines to cope with the server's limited resources.

Grades of Automation

The server currently has 4 grades of automation

Grades of Automation for WolvHaven Railways
GoA Train Operation Description
Level 0 Full manual A train operator controls the speed of the train, starting and stopping, without guidance of any automatic systems. This may include the manual opening or closing of Platform Screen Doors
Level 1 Manual Auto Zone A train operator controls the speed of the train, but train starting and stopping is handled by a traincarts station sign
Level 2 Semi-Automatic Players request a train by pressing triggering/pressing a button to spawn a train. Train starts and stops automatically, and isusually cleared if empty after it leaves the station or reaches the end of the line
Level 3 Unattended Automatic Trains are spawned and operated at regular frequences, operating very similarly to a real-life metro. Train starting, stopping etc. are all handled automatically without need for human interference.

Examples

  • The WolvHaven Metro (4th Haven) employs all 4 grades of automation
    • The manual lines 4,5,6,7, and 9 utilize a mix of level 0 and level 1 automation. Level 1 automation is primarily used at terminal stations to turn around trains or in portions of track shared with automated lines
    • Lines 1 and 3 run level 2 semi-automatic request systems, with players requesting trains by stepping on pressure plates
    • Lines 2, 8, and the Bella Vista Shuttle run level 3 Unattended Automatic operation with frequencies ranging from 5 to 7 minutes, capable of frequencies up to 2 minutes
  • BERT (4th Haven) employs Level 2 and Level 3 grades of automation
    • The District line uses level 3
    • The Wolfminster, Circle, and Westford lines use level 2, players spawn trains using a button located near the Platform Screen Doors
  • Gardellia Mainlines employs level 2 throughout the system
  • Barcester Met and the Croxley Tramlink in Calidia employs level 2 automated operation with New Model Technology trains.
