The ConnectCentral network is a light rail and tramway system in the cities of Gardellia Central, Castelnau Le Lez, Gospley, Palm Ridge and Dalesburg located in the Central Region of Gardellia. These lines are owned by the five cities' transport agencies, and is also jointly operated by all five of their transport agencies. Initially, the tram system began in Dalesburg and was extended into Castelnau Le Lez. A defunct line into the former Rockham city once operated from Dalesburg. Over the years, the network received numerous expansions into Palm Ridge, Gardellia Central and Gospley. ConnectCentral has now taken over operations of Castelnau Underground, running as Line U.

History

ConnectCentral is a rebranding of the Dalesburg Tram lines that extended into Castelnau Le Lez. A line was later extended into Rockham.

Over the years, lots of improvements were done including platform extensions and frequency improvements. Due to the regeneration of Rockham, Line C was permanently closed. Line A lost its branch to Residential due to low usage. Its replacement station is ConnectCentral Arena.

Line D opened in two separate regions due to the complexity of connections to be done. These sections were Paillade to Maguelones in Castelnau Le Lez and Aberdeen to Central in Palm Ridge. The latter was extended to North New Oak in 2020. This line had served the Canal section until 2020 when Line A took over.

Line A Improvement works

Over the years, Line A has received multiple track improvement works. The curves around Dalesburg City Hall were redone when platform extension works occurred. As existing tunnels leading to Maguelones from Castelnau Arena were too sharp, a new route was done to allow for longer trains to operate. This renovation was completed in 2020, utilising a month-long closure. When the underground road tunnel was redone, a new route was needed between north of the new Maguelones portal and west of Dalesburg City Hall. A new gentle curve was done from the latter, with a new cut-and-cover tunnel dug. The line now has a road crossing due to space constraints. These works were completed in May 2021. Castelnau Arena would open at a later date due to extensive renovation involving the Castelnau Underground station.

Separation and Realignment of Lines A and B, Extension to Central City

Due to overcrowding, ConnectCentral considered several solutions to mitigate this issue. To increase capacity, Line B would be separated entirely from Line A, with direct tunnels to reach Paillade Stadium. Whilst this was done, Line A was realigned between Maguelones and Canal to enable the project to revitalise Castelnau Canal be delivered. Agropolis tramstop was permanently closed, and Canal tramstop was relocated slightly to the east. This location would be connected to the Line B tramstop.

Line B would take an alternative route to Canal, via Paillade, providing interchange to Tram Line D. It was first separated from Line A in March 2020. Current works progressed up to Paillade, which was completed on 13 October 2020. New tunnels were dug to Canal in May 2021, expected to open in July. On the other end, Dalesburg Mainline station ceased to be the terminus when the line was extended to Dalesburg Athlete Village.

These lines are expected to be extended to Central City. Tentative dates are not set, but the alignments were finalised in 2020. Line B would continue from Canal to the Port of Gardellia, while Line A would continue from LeCity2 into the Central City, with an intersection with Line B at the western end. Preliminary works were done on Line A, which saw the total reconstruction of Super Speedway station and the short extension to LeCity2. Allentown station was relocated, with Dalesburg City Hall rebuilt to accommodate longer platforms and an additional pair for Line B. With several weekend closures, these works were completed in 2020.

2021 Revitalization Plans

A new programme was introduced in mid 2021 to complete and upgrade existing infrastructure managed by ConnectCentral. Line D was the main goal, and was achieved by finishing the Traxia extension whilst upgrading existing tunnels and stations. The Gospley extension and connection to Palm Ridge was the most crucial part of the project, which was completed in June 2021. Aberdeen station was massively upgraded and reconstructed to cater for increased patronage.

The Castelnau Underground was absorbed into ConnectCentral as Line U in June 2021. The existing line will receive major and heavy upgrades to allow for longer trains to operate, including the separation of the Hyeres branch. To provide better connection with neighbouring city Ember Coast, an extension for Tram Line E is viable. The entire line was upgraded and converted to right-hand traffic (RHT). Tunnel diameters were extensively widened, with certain gradients made gentler. A further substantial renovation was planned between Palm Ridge Mainline and Forum to allow for smoother gradient transition. This would be done in conjunction with the Palm Ridge Central station upgrade. Forum station was lowered, with the section to Connor rebuilt to allow for a straighter alignment for the extension to Ember Coast. All platforms were slightly extended to allow for longer trains to fit.

The extension of Line A is currently delayed due to construction in Central City. Line B is planned to be extended from Paillade which will include 3 new stations: Canal, Lez Riverside-Central West (placeholder) and Port of Gardellia. (August 2021)
