Expansions & Renovations

Orange Zone Expansion

Faced with the increasing shortage of shop spaces at the mall, the mall will be expanded. A second floor will be added to the Orange Zone and a part of the carpark will be converted to shops. The project started on the 25th of September 2018 and completed on the same day. The expansion added 9 shop spaces and made a green roof accessible to the general public.

Phase 2 (N)

To increase the popularity of the mall and to reinforce it's position as a "do everything there" mall, the Phase 2 (N) expansion was launched on the 9th of January 2019. It involves extending the mall northwards of the current boundary at the supermarket. It involves building a cinema complex, additional green space and a hotel. On the 10th of March 2019 the second floor of the turquoise zone opened. As part of Phase 2 (N), the Roof Lawn was also expanded and a mid sized event/concert space named "FreeSpace" was added. The cinema project however was cancelled definitively in 2022 after having been suspended in as early as 2020.

Phase 1 Renovations

As part of the expansion plans, the original mall building will be renovated. Floors will be redone and lighting will be changed to provide a brighter environment.

LINK

Between 2019 and 2020, multiple new north-south links were added between the mall's turquoise, lime and supermarket zones.

Supermarket Zone expansion

In conjunction with the LINK project, the supermarket zone was expanded into the carpark between 2019 and 2020 and the internal courtyard linking the supermarket zone and the Purple zone boulevard closed. The project has however yet to be completed with the expanded former carpark zone yet to be furnished.

Ice Skating Rink closure

On August 1st 2022, the ice skating rink closed. The rink was initially supposed to be replaced by a newer rink to the north of the Turquoise Zone but the plans have yet to materialize. The rink atrium area is planned to be replaced by temporary event spaces and and expansion of the Matt's Fast Food branch with terrace seating. The lime zone of the mall also received new dead fire and dead horn coral floors along with some exterior changes to the lime motif. The courtyard was also given a facelift.

PARK

Following the successful and widely praised revamp of the Lime Zone courtyard in August 2022, the PARK project was launched to revamp the Lime Zone's grass roof along with the Roof Lawn linking the Lime and Turquoise zones. The Freespace event stage on the Roof Lawn was removed as part of the project. The staircase between the Purple Zone and the Roof Lawn was replaced by escalators. The TomiPizza and Oscart locations on the Grass Roof were moved as a result of the revamp.

LINK 2.0

As part of the LINK 2.0 project launched in August 2022 in order to further improve north-south links in preparation for the Turquoise Zone expansion, the following changes were made:

  • a new escalator connecting the Roof Lawn to the streetside Orange Zone shops was constructed
  • the supermarket zone was officially merged into the Orange Zone
  • a new indoor section on ground level was constructed to connect the Orange Zone and the Turquoise Zone
  • the northbikes station was moved to a newly created plaza in front of the new indoor section constructed between the Orange Zone and the Turquoise Zone
  • The Emergency Vehicle Access from Upper Road to National Avenue was rerouted towards the Roof Lawn
  • A new covered link was built between the Purple Zone and the Turquoise Zone

Turquoise Zone expansion

The Turquoise Zone expansion project was launched in August 2022 expanding the Turquoise Zone above Hill Road and north onto the plot of land once earmarked for the ice skating rink and cinema.

As part of the project, the mall carpark was revamped with the ramps to the B1/F moved and part of the G/F carpark converted to bicycle parking with the creation of a direct link to the Lower Road Cycle Lane in December 2022. Bicycle parking was only completed in February 2023, with a new link between the car park and the Yellow Zone also opening.

Separately in December 2022, solar panels were added to the roof of the Purple Zone.
