New Centrif (also misspelt as New Centerif) was the very first proper iteration of the WolvHaven City. Established since Minecraft's beta days, the world was created when Beta 1.6 introduced powered rails for the first time, just before the Beta 1.7 update which introduced pistons to the game.

The server was then a private minecraft server open to SilverWolv, and some of his real-life classmates; the playerbase was almost entirely made of cracked accounts, and was hosted on a Vanilla minecraft server hosted over hamachi.

History

Given how creative mode to the game was only introduced in Beta 1.8, most of the world was constructed primarily in survival, with items spawned in using minecraft's give command.

The main island, New Centrif Island was comprised of 2 seperate islands; one smaller and one larger. The choice of an island was largely inspired from a youtube video titled "Transforming boring island to paradise"; where a small island was developed into a town.

The larger island was only approximately 70 blocks wide and tall, shaped in a U shape with a bay in the middle, and the smaller island about 30 blocks long and 15 blocks wide.

The bay in the larger island was eventually filled up and reclaimed for where the City Hall would sit at.

Eventually, other settlements built by other players on the server would spring up. CampStar was built by Ruby as a countryside getaway from the city. Mau5ville was built by Husky, and Syazwaniville was built by Syazwani.

New Centrif City

New Centrif City was the capital city of the server and was situated on an island. The island was seperated into 2 districts primarily named "Vanilla Plains" and "Central". The naming was ironic as Vanilla Plans served as the commercial district while Central was where all the residential development was located.

Houses in the Central were mostly single developments with each individual owning a single plot of land, constructing their house on top of it. Meanwhile, in Vanilla Plains, 2 twin office towers made from iron blocks and glass were constructed, giving New Centrif an iconic look similar to that of the twin towers of the World Trade Center in New York; except that both towers had an antenna.

Other developments such as a pet adoption/care centre, public farm, road-side stores, and a public ice skiing rink and swimming pool were also construted. Due to the very limited amount of space, apartments were also constructed to house players.

Husky's Articial Tree was a popular tourist attraction situated on a tiny island off the main island

Public amenities were also common in the city, public incinerators for trash disposal and public crafting tables were available for use.

Other Settlements

CampStar was a country-side getaway settlement

CampStar

Camp Star was the second settlement to be founded in the world. Built by a player named "Ruby" the settlement was meant to be a quick countryside getaway from the city. It comprised of a camp centre, public swimming pool building made entirely of diamond blocks, several chalets, an archery ground, and a star gazing beach.

Players would often go over to CampStar for a weekend stay, play some archery and hang out there at night before heading back to the city.

Mau5Ville

The Settlement of Mau5Ville

As cracked accounts were mainstream back then, a player named "Husky" would often log in as Deadmau5's account. This was special as Deadmau5 had a different minecraft shaped body as compared to other minecraft characters. The body shape allowed for extra large ears to be added to the skin.

Mau5ville was a second settlement/town that was constructed far away from the main city. The development comprised of several detached houses along a single street and a city hall that was built with lapis lazuli blocks and glowstone in a pattern that looks like a futuristic mouse, which pays homage to deadmau5 himself.

An iconic attraction of mau5ville is its large "mau5ville" sign made of gold blocks and a giant statue of deadmau5 in the city center.

SyazwaniVille

Further off from mau5ville sat SyazwaniVille which was constructed by a player named "Syazwani". It was also a simple development with the statue of a female character and several detached houses. Unlike the other 2 settlements, SyazwaniVille was a bit harder to get to without any official road or rail links. The path was designated by a bunch of glowstone blocks that were placed along the way to the settlement from mau5ville.

Transport

Roads

The world was not really built for cars, but rather pedestrian traffic only. Roads were primarily paved with stone blocks, outlined with glowstone blocks; which eliminated the need for streetlamps which were hard to construct that time as minecraft at the time did not allow the placement of fences directly on top. To build a lamp post, one would need to build the top fence first then place the other fences below it.

New Centrif Underground

A simple rail line was constructed on the larger island of New Centrif itself, connecting Vanilla Plains to Central. This rail line ran in a U shape around the bay area with 2 stations, was single tracked, and ran at-grade level. The island did not have much development at the time and hence the railway served its purpose for awhile.

Above-ground Central Line

As development started to spring up near Central, a more direct overground single-tracked rail line was constructed, crossing over the bay on a viaduct. 2 seperate station buildings for Vanilla Plains and Central were constructed, and provided grade-seperation for the rail line. This line would later be known as the  Central Line  which would be more popular, causing the at-grade line to shut to make space for redevelopment

Unlike the at-grade level line, the system also had a call-cart mechanism which allowed any user to call the minecart from the other station over with the push of a button. This served the system well until the cables, which were built on glowstone broke after a minecraft update which disallowed the placement of redstone on glowstone blocks.

Shifting the Central Line underground and introduction of automation

As time passed, the water bay area was eventually reclaimed to make space for more development, and the removal of the viaduct seemed necessary to make space for more buildings. Hence, the railway was shifted underground.

Two tunnels were dug entirely by hand in survival mode and was challenging as it involved a lot of land surverying as spectator mode was not a feature within minecraft back then. The new system was fully automated, with a single platform on either side and 2 tracks. The automated system worked with 3 minecarts, where 2 minecarts would be sitting at either end of the station, and the 3rd mincart in motion.

The 3rd minecart nearing the arrival of the station would trigger a detector rail, causing the train sitting in the station to depart and clear the platform before its arrival. This system was novel and would go on to be used in the 2nd iteration of the city -- Wolv City (2nd Haven) in the server's early adoptation of traincarts.

Circle Line

To serve other parts of the island, a  Circle Line  was also planned. The line was to run in parallel with the  Central Line  in a single directional loop and have approximately 5 to 6 stations.

Construction started but was never completed due to the complications in navigating the area underground with limited land surveillance, and time-costly tunneling costs which was built in survival. There were also doubts whether the automatic technology deployed on the Central would be as reliable on a line with intermediate stations.

Only 3 stations were constructed; they were Central, Greenville Apartments, and an unnamed station that would serve as an interchange with the CampStar Express.

Branding

The branding of the New Centrif Underground was very similar to that of the London Underground, with stations demarkated with a sign placed on a piece of red wool to look like the Roundel.

CampStar Express

The CampStar Express was a dual track railway built at sea level to link New Centrif to the settlement of CampStar. The railway was particularly expensive as the tracks used to construct it were alternating power and detector rails. The tracks were also placed directly next to each other with no clearance, leading to breakdowns sometimes.

The system tried to adopt the automatic technology on the New Centrif Underground, but failed due to chunk unloading; which was not known at the time. Attempts to adopt the relay-call-minecart system also failed due to the same reason.

New Centrif Overground

The  New Centrif Overground  railway primarily connected New Centrif and mau5ville and was the longest railway ever constructed in the server at the time. Attempts to utilize the automated system of the New Centrif Underground failed due to similar reasons with the CampStar Express, and it was deemed to expensive to attempt to retrofit the line with a redstone-relay system.

The naming was also coincidental with the London Overground and hence later was inspired by using orange wool and signs to simulate the real-life system's orange roundel.

Retirement

After the introduction of minecraft 1.0 with the launch of minecon, the world faced some weird lag issues where players' FPS would tank in certain areas. This prompted the retirement of the world in end 2011.

The WolvHaven Server would then embark on a period known as the troubled times as it experiment with and tried to; but failed to create a new world similar to that of New Centrif, and other gamemodes such as an attempt to create Magicka, which was a wizard-magic SMP fantasy themed server.

In early April 2012, the world would be replaced by the second iteration of the city -- Wolv City (2nd Haven)
