Wolv City (also referred to as 2nd Haven or 2H) was the second proper iteration of WolvHaven City. Established in early 2012, the server was still a private Minecraft server for SilverWolv and his friends, it was originally hosted on a Vanilla Minecraft server hosted over hamachi, and switched to Bukkit shortly after.

History

Continuing New Centrif's tradition of having a city on an Island, the seed for the world was chosen as it was an island substantially larger than the original New Centrif city. An island was also easier to contain development and set boundaries as compared to a regular city on land.

This was the birth of the WolvHaven experience as we know it today, players would be in survival and go into the outskirts of the city and beyond to gather resources, then return to the city to trade, setting up businesses and enterprises in the process, with headquarters situated in the offices in different skyscrapers. This was largely inspired by popular YouTuber inthelittlewood's Minecraft server back then.

Geography

Districts

Wolv City had 3 districts named the peninsula, City Hall, Business Bay, and a separate island called Wolv Haven.

The Peninsula

The peninsula was the original spawn point of the city and served as the gateway to the city. It was a rather narrow peninsula that contained a single road to the city centre at City Hall. It contained the welcome centre, which a tall needle-like structure inspired by the Space Needle in Seattle, Washington. It also contained the iconic Marina Cove MRT station, which was a semi-circular partially submerged glass structure.

City Hall

The City Hall district was the area surrounding the City Hall itself, and its plaza. Referred to as "Wolfminster" at times, several notable buildings line surround the area, such as y0urs_tru1y's Empire State Building, and mash_p0tat0es' rendition of the Burj Khalifa and the Petronas Towers. A tower inspired by the Tokyo Tower may also be seen.

To the West of the district was a beach and lighthouse with terraced house developments, and the Eastern section of the district contained the National Library, and the skyline high-rise.

Business Bay

North of the City Hall district was the business bay district. This contained several developments such as the World Trade Center which was a direct replica of the ones in New York, and several skyscrapers lined the seafront on the east. Buildings like the MILTEC (military technologies) building and Citigroup Center were around the area as well. Most of the trading and economic activity of the server occured in this district.

The district also contained Central Park, the Marina Bay Sands built by y0urs_tru1y and a small university building to house the WolvHaven University campus.

Wolv Haven Island

North of Business Bay is a separate island linked to the main island via a bridge. It was to be the new CBD of the city but was never completed. Plans to reconstruct the new WTC complex on the island were never completed, but had several buildings completed. To the east of the island also set the BIOTECH building which would be a prominent building in the server's history.

It is also this island where the server WolvHaven gets its current name from. SilverWolv liked the name as it sounded less cringe than "Wolv City".

Eastern Lands

The eastern mainlands were connected to the City Hall district via a suspension bridge that was inspired by the Golden Gate Bridge. Not much development happens in the Eastern Lands, and the region is very messy. Some developments include a mansion, the Hakurei Shrine and a Survival Games arena when the game was still popular back then.

Economy

The economy of the server then was mainly from players who went out and gathered resources in survival then returned to the city to trade the resources.

Production

Production was a strong economic factor in the server. The server then had enabled Craftbook mechanics, which allowed for the creation of machines for the mass production of goods. Goods that could not be produced were instead hand-crafted, such as a potion brewing laboratory in one of the buildings in the City Hall district.

Trade

Trade between players mostly occured in the World Trade Center in the Business Bay district. Players would setup companies and the trading of goods would mostly happen between the floors of the towers. This was enabled by the then-popular showcase plugin which displayed items on slabs with a buy/sell chat interface.

A notable product that was often traded was pickaxes, and enchantment books. This enabled the creation of the then-popular PAXEL pickaxe which stood for the "Pickaxe-axe-shovel" as the efficiency enchantment on a pickaxe then allowed for the quick and efficient mining and cutting of regular stone, tree logs and shovels.

Roads

Without the availability of a vehicular-road based paving material back then other than black wool, the city's streets were designed for pedestrian traffic. Footpaths were 3m wide, paved with stone bricks bordered with stone slab blocks. The roads were eventually re-paved with black wool blocks to give the city a more realistic feel, but streets remained relatively narrow and basic.

Rapid Transit (MRT)

The Wolv City Mass Rail Transit (MRT) also sometimes referred to as the Minecart Rapid Transit before the adaptation of traincarts plugin served as the main transport mode in the city. The system comprised of 3 different lines. The system would later go on to be the first Minecraft rail system in the world to incorporate Platform Screen Doors.

Metropolitan Line

The  Metropolitan Line  was the first ever MRT line to be built, and served as a shuttle between the peninsula and city hall districts. It was dual tracked and only had 2 stations named Marina Cove and City Hall. The line featured stone brick tunnels which were built using the cut-and-cover technique and were hence rectangular in shape. The line adopted automatic operation technology on the New Centrif (1st Haven) Underground's Central line with minecarts and then 10-minecart trains using traincarts.

Adoptation of Traincarts

The server eventually adopted the Traincarts bucket plugin which most WolvHaveners are familiar with today. Trains would run between stations normally using a vanilla automatic operation system based on red stone before the switch to the plugin's provided sign-based features. This was a reluctant shift was SilverWolv did not want an over dependence on non-vanilla Minecraft plugins.

City Line

The  City Line  was the next MRT line to be constructed, and served as a North-South link between the City Hall, Business Bay and Wolv Haven districts. It had 3 stations named after the districts respectively and a branch line that served an additional World Trade Center station. Unlike the Metropolitan, this line was constructed using tunnel boring by copy-pasting iron-block lined tunnel segments as WorldEdit was introduced to the server. The stations were still constructed using cut-and-cover techniques.
